Recording a TV prog on your PC

Has anyone ever recorded a TV prog with a tv tuner card on the pc and then played it back on a regular TV (kinda like that new TieVo <sp??> thingy)???

 

If so, what card have u used for recording and then playback to the standard TV? What was the quality like?

 

I really like the idea of that TieVo thingy but it seems a bit pricey for a stand alone box.

 

Beside, I have a pc right next to a big screen tv and having my pc do the same thing would be cool.
