Napalm 0 Posted August 16, 2000 I Know this is a Win 2000 site, but Win me is like Win 2000.... Ok it is far from it, but it is made by the same company. All I ask is for a little response if you seem to have the same problem ... First of all .... I gotta congratulate MS on how stable Win Me is (when compared to Win 98/95). Anyway, Win Me seems like a savior to me. It is compatible with most (not Norton Internet Security) programs and it is almost as stable as 2000. The problem: After having Win Me installed on 2 of my compters for well over 2 months, I am having random problems develop. I don't know if it is my computers configurations, but I would like to know if anyone else has had wierd problems. At first, I thought it was just something my brother did on his computer to screw stuff up, but he denies it everytime. Then I get problems too (and I KNOW what I am doing). ... What kind of problems? Nothing that seems to go together just Random stuff like: - Once, when Win Me was booting up on one of my computers, Explorer would crash (even though no changes had been made at all from the previous week) - Then after working for a while (ever since it was installed with the OS), any music player (Windows Media player, RioPort ...) would crash upon opening. - I cannot burn any CD's under windows ME using any software after it was working before (again, no changes had been made to the computer). - One of my computers has a hard drive split into multiple partions (c, d, e, and f). Windows Me would NOT let me defrag/ScanDisk the C drive (the drive it is installed on) all of a sudden. It worked before and quit all of a sudden. Different applications were tried (the default Defrag/Scandisk and Norton's and Disk keeper). - Finally, all of a sudden, Win ME starting acting flaky. As in it would freeze every now and then and it would perform much slower than before. However, after trying different solutions for each of the mentioned problems (including System Restore which never cured anything) all of these problems were solved by running the setup program for Win me again (without doing a fresh format and reinstall). This is a minor problem, however it is not a good sign to have to reinstall the OS every now and then on top of it. Again, I don't know if it is me (since it happened on 2 seperate computers with different configurations)or Win Me. Both computers are rarely new (built within the last year). .... Please e-mail me with any comments @: clockhar@yahoo.com Again, I know what I am doing (majoring in Computer engineer with hopes of designing computer processors) so please don't respond with any unappropriate comments. Thanks, clockhar@yahoo.com Share this post Link to post

DosFreak 2 Posted August 16, 2000 "and it is almost as stable as 2000." ;( You try to convince yourself every night..... IE5.5 & Media Player 7 are very flaky in 9x. Since IE is even more integrated into ME many more flaky problems will occur. IE5.5 and Media Player 7 work wonderfully in NT5 though. Share this post Link to post
Four and Twenty 0 Posted August 16, 2000 I ran betas of ME for over 2 months with no such problems and the final gives me no problems either. However my primary OS right now is Whistler and I use Me to play games for a couple of hours a week and I only have games and new video drivers installed. So I guess if the OS is a flawed as previous versions of 9.x i probably don't use it enough for these problems to occur. I remeber back when I used 98 and 98 only would reformat and reinstall about once a month to get almost kind of mildy reliable perforamce out of the OS. When Winblows reformat and reinstall and your probelms are sovled at least for a little while. ------------------ My System Dell Demension XPS T500 Triple Boot Windows 2000 Pro 2195 / Windows Whistler Pro 2250 / Windows Millennium Final PIII @ 500 Mhz (with after market heatsink and dual fan) 128 Megs PC133 Ram TNT2 Ultra Graphics Card (with the core and memory overclocked by 20 Mhz and dual voodoo coolers) 3Com 10/100 Ethernet Card 3Com 56k Modem 12.6 Gig IBM HD 40X CD Rom Drive 100 Mb Zip Drive Share this post Link to post
Tim Bazzinett 0 Posted August 17, 2000 Been using it for about two months now without any problems. The only thing I have noticed that once in a while, my desktop properties sometimes wont come up. But overall, even after disabling the file protection services, I have had no major problems like I would with windows 95. Share this post Link to post
EddiE314 0 Posted August 17, 2000 been running a dual boot of win2k and winme build 2513 (old) and i haven't had any problems at all except for the one that is similar to Tim's, but with mine, some control panel applets don't wanna open when i tell them to, i have to try 2 or 3 times, then it hangs for a sec, and then opens...just a little problem though. superand44 0 Posted August 17, 2000 Windows ME works fine for me. I have only been using it for 7 days so it's a little hard to say yet. I often format my comp. (about 2/week :-( ) because BSOD or random lockup ( Win2k version of BSOD :-) ) But now I have found a sweet spot with the ME final :-) Share this post Link to post
