3D Bookshelf - Worlds First 3D eBook Reader

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

Here's a sneak peek at our latest App, 3D Bookshelf. As far as we know, it's the world's first fully 3D eBook reader for iPhone and iPod touch.

It features an ultra-realistic 3D book simulation, bringing some of the most time-honoured books to life.

Careful attention was paid to performance to ensure the best reading experience, while using as little Battery power as possible. When there is no movement on screen, the animation system shuts down entirely, leaving the CPU / GPU idle, just like a normal 2D App. When animating, the reading mode runs at a clean 60 fps, even on G1 hardware.

Here is a full resolution version of the preview footage of the App in action: (http://www.screencast.com/t/NGI5NWVmZTQ)

Here are some screen shots:

The initial release comes with 15 books, but we are planning an update to allow book uploads – more on this later.

We're hoping to take the technology well beyond what has been shown in the preview, and obviously we're looking at the up-coming Tablet.

For anyone interested in how it was made, here is an early behind-the-scenes screencast of the prototype we built for the project.
