Why is Windows 2000 pro the best OS choice for Internet user

Recommended Posts

I tried using a RAMdrive for a lil while ... Win2k has to use software for it (Win9x only needs a few lines of text in notepad). It was okay ... I don't have enough ram to put my Pagefile on there, so I tried putting things like my IE Cache and stuff on there ... I didn't really notice it doing anything real spectacular with my computer so I got rid of it. I only have 256 megs of ram and made different sized drives (from 20-70 megs). It was cool for a lil while, but wasn't worth it for me in the end ... maybe if I expanded to 1gig of ram or something smile

I dont know what software.. i havn't played with that yet. Do a search on NTcompatible, as there was a thread not too long ago which discussed this.

As for the cached icons part.. yes, that will put 8000 icons into cache. May be a little excesssive.. but oh well. It speeds things up considerably.

my Swap file is excessive....but it works.

I have one partition of about 800mb that I had nothing better to do, so I just set it for my swap partition....

so I have a 793mb swap there, and a 25mb swap on my C: drive(Adobe Photoshop needs it for osme reason).

Again, excessive, but what else would I do with a "small" partition like that?

then add a new value " Max Cached Icons "
and set it to 8000

AS far as the RAMdrive goes... I'm not sure cuz I havn't done it yet. I think you have to use 3rd party software. .. Anybody?

Is Max Cached Icons one word? and what value do i add, a Binary? or just a regular String Value?
