Ekstreme 0 Posted November 25, 1999 Everythign was running fine, then all of a sudden BOOM, quake will not load. The screen starts to load, first grey, then white and that's it. Was all working perfectly, then all of a sudden NOTHING. I didn't install anything that I don't normally use, no other games, nothing. When I do mange to kill the process, the screen goes incredibly bright! I'm using 3.56 drivers, have tried 3.53 and also tried the DX7 update with no success. Is it just me, or does 2k have a REAL problem with distinguishing what drivers should be loaded and what shouldn't?? BTW, I just formatted this SOB and reinstalled the lot, quake worked once then that's it!! STILL nothing I haven't already installed on previous working installations was installed Share this post Link to post
jams 0 Posted November 25, 1999 make sure you have the right version of nvoglnt.dll, it should be 3.53 or the 2.08, the 3.56 opengl is buggy! Just copy the right nvoglnt to your the system32 dir Share this post Link to post
chameleon 0 Posted November 25, 1999 you have tried the opengl fixed 3.56 drivers from my page right ? win2kbox.8m.com Share this post Link to post
Ekstreme 0 Posted November 26, 1999 Sure have, I might try what Jams suggests, IF I ever try 3.56 again!!. I formatted, installed 3.56, quake worked once. Formatted again installed 3.53 and all is good, not quite as smooth as what 3.56 was but at least it's stable now. Thanks guys Share this post Link to post
jams 0 Posted November 26, 1999 I should had written this yesterday but i was in a hurry, sorry, Extreme it would have spared you lots of work i realise now. I had exactly the same problem with the 3.56 drivers. Quake 3 phucked up and the screen became very very bright, and i copied the 3.53 nvoglnt into the system32 folder and it works great. Or maybe just try Chameleon`s 3.56 drivers! Btw does anyone know anything about how correct the agp support displays in the directx tools window? Because i read somewhere that the tnt/2 drivers dont use agp even though says so in the dx tool window, because of a bug in the driver! Share this post Link to post
Ekstreme 0 Posted November 26, 1999 Thanks man, a lil late, but no harm done. Well, jams, I'm kinda thinking about using 3.56 AGAIN, but a lil scared to be honest. I don't wanna be stuck in another format. I'm moving house in a few days, so you can Imagine I have a few more important things to do than reinstall windows (so the missus says anyhows ) AS far as AGP goes, in 3.53 it appears to be enabled, but I'm not 100% sure that it actaulyl is, some say it does some say otherwise. 3.56 doesn't show at all so I presume it's not working. Sorry i can't tell ya more. Share this post Link to post
jams 0 Posted November 26, 1999 Hi again! You shouldnt have to reformat, i usually just search for all nv*.* and delete those files, then i unstall the video card and reboot! Then just install it again! But notice that the file nv.sys in 3.53 is called nv_mini.sys in 3.56, so just make sure to delete the right file before you insatll the other!
