Alm 0 Posted February 24, 2000 This has probably been discussed a zillion times, but I haven't seen any postings on the new Detonator Release Candidate drivers. Soooo.. here it goes. Before I post my problem here's my system Abit BP6 / QQ-Bios / ACPI enabled / MPS 1.4 (2) 366's oc'd to 567 (100 Turbo FSB) both @ 75F - 85F Degrees (11) fans 512 Meg of Ram (PC100 CAS2) Lots of Diskspace.. over 100 Gig geForce 256 Vid Card Nvidia 3.78 RC drivers for Win2k My problem is whenever I start Q3A it hangs, sometimes I get lucky and it will start past the opening screen, then it locks up again. What am I doing wrong.. I don't even know if SMP is enabled in Q3A, I can't get to a console to enable / disable it.. Is SMP enabled by default?? I've used the original Q3A from CD, and the updated point Beta's.. all no luck. Is it my system?? Drivers?? Hopefully I've given enough information so someone can help me. phoqus 0 Posted February 24, 2000 I can help you with one thing: To enable smp you must type /r_smp 1 and then /vid_restart. I have an Abit bp6 with dual 466 oc to 525mhz. with a voodoo2, but since the voodoo2 drivers aren't yet released (f*cking 3dfx) I haven't had the chance to test it yet... Share this post Link to post

YuppieScum 0 Posted February 24, 2000 Running your FSB at more than 100Mhz (which you must be doing to get >550 out of a 366 Celeron) is bad. Have you tried running the Celery's at stock speed to see if the crash still occurs? SMP is not enabled by default in Q3A. Also, many people with the same problem as your have found that using the 3.66 drivers solves it. More details can be found by searching the forum. Share this post Link to post
slkh 0 Posted February 26, 2000 Solutions 1. Downclock your FSB so that your AGP run at 66 Mhz. 2. Use 3.78 Reference Driver. 3. Disable AGP under DXDIAG if there is problem. 4. If you have RC5Client, try to exit the program when running Quake. 5. Very frequently, I find that deleting the q3config file solve the problem. Share this post Link to post
Enmity 0 Posted February 26, 2000 I have a similiar system to yours, and i had similiar problems... 1st off my q3 locks at that point if my dnet client is running. so if your cracking blocks, turn it off. also, try running dxdiag , and run the tests to see if you pass them.
