Another Q3 Problem

Recommended Posts

I've been having a minor problem with Quake 3: After playing for about 10 minutes or so, the game will lock up and the only way to get out is to hit the reset button. I have a P-III 500, 192m Ram, 20gb WD hard drive (ATA/66), Diamond Monster II 3D (Voodoo2 chipset), ATI Xpert@play 98, using W2K 2195 Pro Final. This is something that has just started happening. The only thing that I've seen was a reference to turning off "flare" on the NTCompatible 3dfx page but whoever wrote it had rather poor english (no offense intended) and I couldn't find anything in the Q3 setup about flare. This occurs whether I'm actually playing or if I just have the game open; about 10 minutes into it and it locks up. This is just a kinda annoying problem. I really like the overall performance of W2K; I'd hate to have to go back to Win98 just because of this.

This may sound odd, but if you have A3D audio enabled on your system it can serverly f up your game play

i think you must edit the the q3config.cfg

in the baseq3 dir (if the cfg look weird -> start edit from a dos box).

In my config is the following value:

seta r_flares "0"

I hope it helps you
