Matt_gmw 0 Posted April 28, 2000 When running quake 3 it will lock after a few mins I have tried the latest upgrade but this has had no effect My system is P3 733 Creative labs geforce DDR (Nvidia 5.13) SB live (liveware 2000) 256mb ram (133mhz) 27GB Hartd disk Running win 2k Pro Can any help on this all my other games run fine (it may be a openGL prob but not sure) Share this post Link to post
Dragon-Lord 0 Posted April 29, 2000 I narrowed my problem to the SBLive. No driver set yet released (or on the W2K RTM CD) fixes the problem. I pulled my SBLive for the time being until new drivers are released. A CL SB 16 PCI works much better with the WDM drivers. Some of the problem may be due to the GForce (like my system) or a combination of the two together. The 5.16 driver set is due out shortly, and is supposed to be the most stable yet. For decent SBLive drivers, we will be waiting for months I suspect (at least two full revs?). Try pulling the sound card, playing q3a with no sound for a while, and see if the crashes don't disappear. :} PS There are also v5.14 w2K drivers for you geforce and some people have had problems, while some people love them. Matt_gmw 0 Posted April 29, 2000 Thanks for the advice :-) I tried the 5.14 drivers and I could only get a win res of 8*6 in 16 colours and I had no nvidia control pannel applet for the display properties screen Share this post Link to post
Dragon-Lord 0 Posted April 29, 2000 eek! try using Add/Remove programs to uninstall the nvidia 5.xx series drivers. Then, reboot and reinstall the 5.14. I am hoping the 5.16 (plus new SBLive drivers one day) do the trick for me. You seem to be running in svga mode only, meaning that NO video drivers are installed/working... :} Share this post Link to post
Matt_gmw 0 Posted April 29, 2000 Do you think the drivers will fix it or do you think I should get a new sound card and what one?????? Share this post Link to post
Dragon-Lord 0 Posted April 29, 2000 I hold out hope that the nv5.16 drivers PLUS a final set of CL SBLive! drivers will end my problems. This...this may be an irrational hope, but we all need to cling to something. :} :} PS The live is a great card, so I kept it, but just replaced mine with a standard SB16 (cheap and reliable) for the interim.
