Which is "greek" to me. ( : What Distro are you running ? My DX4900 (Easyshare) works great with Mandrake 9.1, USBView and GTKam-0.1.10. All I have to do is open USBView and click the Easyshare docking station button, and you can see it being detected, then go into GTKam, click on the Camera menu>add camera>detect. It works great too, displays a thumbnail list of all my pictures which I can transfer over and then clear the digital camera memory. Share this post Link to post

I wouldn't concern yourself with GPhoto, but have you installed USBView and GTKam ? What you can try though is to click the button on the docking station and make sure it is being detected first using USBView. Once the system is detecting it and you know the camera is being detect, it is then a program issue vice hardware. GPhoto didn't really work with mine either, but you can use GTKam to retrieve the images from the camera, then just use Gimp to view and edit your pictures. I get output when I run the gphoto2 --auto-detect program but the actual software just doesn't work properly with our cameras. Just a thought to roll around. Here is the output I get. # gphoto2 --auto-detect Model Port ---------------------------------------------------------- Kodak DX4900 usb: It is detected but the program itself is useless and will not detect the camera. That is why I use GTKam to actually transfer the pictures. With GTKam you will not have to mount anything, you just go into the program and run the autodetect, once your light is blinking on the Easyshare docking station. There should be packages available for SuSE. http://gphoto.sourceforge.net/proj/gtkam/ These packages came on the Mandrake Distro CDs and all I had to do was install them. You might want to check your cds, or you should be able to find the SuSE packages online somewhere. Share this post Link to post

Tomorrow I will have time and I will try to find both USBView and GTKam and install them and see if I can get it to work. I would love to use linux instead of windoze when working with the pictures. Because Gimp runs fast on my computer and I also like the quick access to all menus with just a click with the right mousebutton. Adobe photoshop is really slow on my windoze PC. I use VMware 4.1 for anything that I absolutely have to do in windows. Like using Adobe Image ready, or Dreamweaver MX to edit my web site. kopellos 0 Posted October 5, 2003 When starting usbview I get an errormessage saying: Cannot open the file /proc/bus/usb/devices Verify that you have USB compiled into your kernel, have the USB core modules loaded, and have the usbdevfs filesystem loaded. I have tried with typing this 2 commands: modprobe usb-storage modprobe usbcore I have also the directory /proc/bus/usb/ But this directory is empty, and I cannot create the directory "devices" here. I get an errormessage saying: Cannot create directory 'devices' I an logged in as root. Is something perhaps still missing in my installation? Share this post Link to post
kopellos 0 Posted October 5, 2003 I have mounted by typing this command: mount -t usbdevfs /dev/sda1 /mnt/camera Then I start usbview I click the button "configure". In the field "Location of usbdevfs file", I type in the path /mnt/camera/devices and click OK. Now all information about my camera is there in USBView !!! But I can still not get it to work in GTKam or Digikam. Share this post Link to post
kopellos 0 Posted January 17, 2004 Here is the commmands I have to type in: modprobe usbcore modprobe usb-storage modprobe usb-uhci mount -t usbdevfs /dev/sda1 /proc/bus/usb I think it is the mount command that was wrong earlier. Perhaps this mount path is a little unic for the Suse 8.2 distribution. My camera only works with GTKam. My guess is that GTKam as default looks in the catalog /proc/bus/usb. It only works while i am logged in as root. Any tips on how to make it work logged in as a user is appreciated. Never surrender ( : Share this post Link to post
