Why connetix doesn't release a Windows 2000 friendly Virtual

Recommended Posts

Looks like even these guys beleived MS statement that Windows 2000 is for business and not for games, windows 2000 users don't need games..blah blah blah.

Now, VGS messagebox shows "This program only runs under Windows 95/98/ME". What happened to Windows 2000 support?

IF Windows 2000 has Directx 7 built in support, why won't connetix try to make some fixes and make it run under 2000?

Is it because if they do it, they will have to lower their antipiracy VGS system?

errr.... and i was gonna buy this... this is really making me wonder if i should build a win9k box, and find a switch that will change my keyboard, mouse, speakers, and monitor to either computer. if there is such a device.

VGS doesn't work in win2k as NT doesn't tolerate dirty little hacks to access the CDROM (as an example). By using the proper access routines to access the low-level hardware the latency would become to high, which would then screw up the timing for the emulator, similar to problems all emulators suffer. It is really difficult to make a fast low latency application, that doesn't sacrafice stabilty.

Make sure you can take the switch box back if it doesn't work properly.

With some of the boxes, when you switch the keyboard and mouse from machine A to machine B and back again, machine A will no longer detect the keyboard and mouse.

Just something to watch out for.

The reason VGS has not been update is because of legal difficulties. That's IT. Connectix is a fine company and would have update it A LOOONNGG time ago. All you had to do was ask and they would have done it. I'll look for the link but basically Bleem won and Connectix lost. frown Anyways EPSX is better than both of them and is FREE too!
