FunnyMuffin 0 Posted February 25, 2000 Under Win98 I started the Win2k installation proces. it copied some files and rebooted. During boot it started the installation proces under DOS. I had to choose a partition to install, but I forgot to turn on that option before rebooting from Win98.. I cancelled with F3 so I could reboot. I now changed my mind I want to wait installing Win2K, but everytime I boot I still get the boot-up screen where I can choose between continuing the Win2k install or go to Win98.. Does somebody know how to get rid of it? Share this post Link to post
Shrink 0 Posted February 25, 2000 Delete boot.ini in your c:\ directory. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! Share this post Link to post

YuppieScum 0 Posted February 25, 2000 Edit the BOOT.INI file with NotePad. Make the default entry "c:\" Save. Share this post Link to post
Shrink 0 Posted February 25, 2000 Remove the read only attribute from the file (right click on it and select properties, then deselect read only). ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! Share this post Link to post
FunnyMuffin 0 Posted February 25, 2000 It now works. I made this from the boot.ini [boot Loader] Timeout=5 Default=C:\ [Operating Systems] C:\="Microsoft Windows" In stead of this (default) [boot Loader] Timeout=5 Default=C:\$WIN_NT$.~BT\BOOTSECT.DAT [Operating Systems] C:\$WIN_NT$.~BT\BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Setup" C:\="Microsoft Windows" By the way.. If I install Windows 2000 on a new partition on my HD, is it easy to uninstall and then go back to Win98? Share this post Link to post
YuppieScum 0 Posted February 25, 2000 if it's on a seperate partition to Win9x, then the edit above will prevent it booting. To "deinstall" it, format the partiton! Share this post Link to post
Tim Bazzinett 0 Posted February 26, 2000 Here is the solution. You dont have to edit or delete anything... yet. Get yourself a startup disk from the add/remove programs area of the control panel . Make the startup disk. Reboot the computer and use the startup disk to boot with. At the a: prompt type "sys c:" and then hit enter!!!! Problem fixed! The deleting part is deleting the boot.ini, ntldr file, and the ntdetect file on the c: root. Share this post Link to post
