Guest Posted March 11, 2000 Anybody else having this problem? Without warning, my system has just shut down and restarted maybe 3 times now. Just like that! One minute up and running, the next minute BEEP! I dunno. ------------------ ********************************************** ---Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder.--- ********************************************** Pentium II 450@504 4.5X112 128MB PC100 SDRAM Diamond Viper V770 Ultra Sound Blaster Live! DFB 0 Posted March 11, 2000 Not 100% sure, but I THINK this could be CPU heat problem. The last time something like this happened, my CPU fan had stopped. Your overclocked CPU probably isn't being cooled enough by the fans. Share this post Link to post
Maverick494 0 Posted March 11, 2000 What were you doing when this happend? was it just sitting there on the desktop with nothing running except background apps, browsing the inet? or what? Share this post Link to post
Guest Posted March 11, 2000 Yeah. It's happened just as it's sitting here on the desktop, it's happened when I was browsing the net, and one other time while i was playing Warcraft. I thought about the CPU overheat problem, but I've had that baby overclocked for a year now, and this never happened back in my Windows 98 days. Perhaps I will tinker with that though. Here's a thought I had, tell me if it's crazy. In my case, I have 3 internal 3.5" slots... I have all three filled by cramming in there a foppy and both of my hard drives. Do you think the extremely tight quarters may be overheating the drives? ------------------ ********************************************** ---Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder.--- ********************************************** Pentium II 450@504 4.5X112 128MB PC100 SDRAM Diamond Viper V770 Ultra Sound Blaster Live! nova 0 Posted March 12, 2000 No, I'd really consider downclocking the CPU. I've heard of MANY cases where people ran Win98 nicely with oc'ed CPUs for long times, then installed Win2000 and their PCs kept crashing randomly. Don't take ANYTHING for given when it comes to Win2000 and overclocking your hardware. Try it before posting a reply on the board, ok? (Not trying to be unfriendly!) nova. Guest Posted March 12, 2000 Sorry to bother you all. It was something real stupid. My power chord got a short in it. **smacks forehead** ------------------ ********************************************** ---Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder.--- ********************************************** Pentium II 450@504 4.5X112 128MB PC100 SDRAM Diamond Viper V770 Ultra Sound Blaster Live!
