Windows 2000 Server DNS Problem, Please Help!

Recommended Posts

Hello People,

I am setting up a web hosting company using Windows 2000 Server. Right now I'm using 2 PCs:

Primary Domain Name Server

NS1.NOYEARLYFEES.COM 202.188.111.74

NOYEAR-HST

Secondary Domain Name Server

NS2.NOYEARLYFEES.COM 202.188.111.75

NOYEAR2-HST

The primary DNS server is also the web server.

This is my problem:

I cannot for the life of me get www.noyearlyfees.com to work correctly! As in, if I type it into any other computer here at the office, I get a "HTTP 404 - File not found" error.

If I type it into NS1 or NS2, it works.

And here's the weird part, if I type the IP: http://202.188.111.74/

It works on ANY computer.

Everything seems correct -- all the zone information, host headers, etc etc etc...

Because NS1 is the domain controller, it has ALL the available IP addresses entered into it for control (IE: 202.188.111.xx and 203.106.104.xxx). But for some reason, it can't decide which IP address should be used for the website of noyearlyfees.com.

I've spent hours trying to figure this out. I've gone through all the docs, and my Mastering Windows 2000 Server book by Mark Minasi...

I know I'm not insane. I'm currently hosting 4 other sites with no problems at all, but I cannot get the actual domain working! The other 4 sites being: http://www.mintye.com/ http://www.mintye.com.my/ http://www.voteforthebest.com/ http://www.tradeshowbusiness.com/

Any help you could give me on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Denise

Your DNS setup seems correct in the fact that those domains including your main one resolve correctly. You do not have reverse DNS setup however but I doubt this would make a difference.

I think the problem lies in the IIS 5 configurations of the main website. Double check the host headers configuration as well as the web root to see if they are pointing to the correct directory.
