Andy_25 0 Posted March 21, 2000 Hi, I have the following problem with Word97 and Excel97 in Win2k: Word: When I double-click on a .doc to open it, Word starts and I then get a message: "c:\****.doc is being used by "my name". Do you want to make a copy?" This doesnt happen if I start Word first and choose file-open. Excel: A similar problem. When I double-click on an .xls file to open it, I get the message: "A document with the same name ****.xls is already open. You cannot open two documents with the same name....." Again this error doesn't appear if I start Excel first and then file-open. Anybody have any idea why this happens? Thanks, Andy Share this post Link to post
EM 0 Posted March 21, 2000 If it is any consolation, I have the same trouble. So far I have found no solution but I am wondering if it may be that I created some of these documents under Win98 and now I am logged in as Administrator on my Win2k machine. Could it be looking for the "name" of the creator but finding Administrator? Ed Share this post Link to post
Andy_25 0 Posted March 21, 2000 I was also wondering whether it has something to do with who has logged in Win2K and who set up as the user in Word / Excel. I'm logged in as user with administrator rights, but not specificly as the "administrator". Well, let's hope someone here knows what the problem is. Andy Share this post Link to post
