is "APCOMPAT.EXE" actually good for something?

Did someone get another program that normally won´t work with Win2000 to work by using this program? If yes what program was it?

For me it has proven useful when an application says it requires Windows 98 (for example Mechwarrior 3), otherwise I have not encountered any applications that won’t run under Windows 2000.
