news 28 Posted October 11, 2012 The Western Digital RAID Edition line of hard drives has been around for some time now, and has largely impressed us with each subsequent release. Since the launches of the RE4-GP and later, the faster spinning RE4, WD's enterprise line had been capped at the 2TB mark. Now that has changed with the introduction of a new line: simply named the RE Series starting with a 4TB model. RE drives have always carried a 'faster' track geometry than their consumer units, and this same case applies here. A heavier head pack resulted in slightly higher seek times, but our sample was able to keep random access performance in check and turn in some of the best file copy performance numbers we've seen from a spinning disk to date. Here's hoping we see the 4TB capacity point trickle down to the Red and Green lines soon!" Thanks for posting our news!
