STi Sev 0 Posted August 7, 2000 Even WITH sp1 update and ALL Microsloth updates, now i get "MEMORY COULD NOT BE READ" errors in quake 3, desktop, pure virtual call errors, ****ing annoying can anyone help????? Share this post Link to post
Bursar 0 Posted August 7, 2000 Have you thought that it could be your memory modules? If you have two, take one out and run the system for a while. Then do the same with the other one. If you only have problems with one, then it's faulty and you need to replace it. If you only have one module, can you borrow one from someone, or do a temporary swap to try and find out if the other person gets the same problems. If this doesn't help, it could be motherboard related. On the other hand, it might be swapfile memory, so you may have some bad blocks or other sorrupt areas on your hard disk. Hope this helps. Shrink 0 Posted August 7, 2000 STi Sev - you seem to have an inordinate amount of problems with your system by the looks of it. I would be looking at problems with your hardware, rather than continuing to attribute it to every application that you install, beta or not. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! MarksmanX 0 Posted August 7, 2000 Did you do a clean install of Windows 2000 or an upgrade? Share this post Link to post
STi Sev 0 Posted August 8, 2000 Shrink, Yeah your right. Sometimes I blame it on stuff.. But the problem is that it was fine without SP1 or 5.5 Share this post Link to post
MarksmanX 0 Posted August 8, 2000 Don't upgrade. Do a fresh install of Windows 2000. If you have the upgrade CD it will prompt you for the Windows 9X CD and will then do a fresh install of Windows 2000. Share this post Link to post

ROM 0 Posted August 8, 2000 have you tried re-installing quake 3 (making sure the old one is completly gone!) Are you running a cracked version :-) Share this post Link to post
Maji291 0 Posted August 8, 2000 STi Sev: If you still get the error after swapping your modules in and out; give this simtester freeware a try. It appears to do an extensive diognostic of your installed modules. I find this is the best way to rule out a memory module(s) when the system is giving BSOD. Good luck http://www.simmtester.com/PAGE/products/doc/download.asp Share this post Link to post
