do I have too many applications on my computer ??

I'm wondering if I may now have too many applications for my computer.

 

It seems applicatations are taking longer to load than previously (i.e as I keep adding more software).

 

BTW, I only install applications from vendors (in other words I don't ever install betas, or download games or install freebies).

 

My disks have had diskeeper run on them so they are fine in that respect.

 

I AM RUNNING w2k (no software is installed in my nt system - dual boot).

 

My machine has only been reformatted/reinstalled only this week.

 

Partion Magic tells me that;

 

Disk 0

C: (NT4) has 2gb (1gb used),

K: (W2K) has 2gb (1.4gb used),

S: (software) has 4.6gb (2.8gb used)

 

Disk 1 is data (18.2gb)

 

I'm using the latest drivers.

If there is more in the startup it will take longer to load simple as that. I load my system as much as possible and yeah it slows it down a little but phuck it that is why is use NT cause it can handle multitasking correctly.

 

You should do a web search for the startup control panel and check out what is running as you sys loads and cut out the crap u don't need. Good job getting nt4 and 2k on the same sys by the way, that can be tricky. I once had nt4 server 2k and 98 on the same sys but it did not last very long and I just had to leave NT4 behind for good.

There is no such thing as too many programs that is like saying I have too much money or I get too much pussy or I have too much pot.

Yeah, get rid of stuff that you dont need on startup. One of the best tweaking utilities besides TweakUI is Xteq X-Setup. There's a lot of features in it to use, among them is the ability to disable and delete startup apps that you dont need. Stuff like anti-virus and a firewalls should be left to activate on startup. Disable some features, restart and see if everything still works okay. If you dont see any problems, you can delete those apps from startup.

Also, if you dont have a lot of ram, get some, as that will help a lot.
