stmok 0 Posted March 5, 2001 I'm a newbie to Windows 200 Pro, having moved from Win95B...To my problems... Problem 1 --------- For me, this applies to both Windows Media Player 6.4 (comes with Win2000 Pro) and Windows Media Player 7. When I open any video clip (mpeg, Divx, AVI, WMA, ASF, etc), my computer suddenly switches to a blue screen with the following message. *** STOP: 0x0000001E (0xC0000005, 0x00000000, 0x000000, 0x00000000) KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED Beginning dump of physical memory Physical memory dump complete. Contact your system administrator or technical support group. ========= I also hear the Hard disk park itself just a fraction of a second before this screen appears. Problem 2 --------- I know Win2K Pro provides DEFAULT drivers for SB Live! cards. But I don't like them. I try an install drivers from my SB LIVE. I try to run some of the Live apps but they don't appear when I try to run them. They just sit in the background and don't appear on the screen. eg Creative Surround Mixer. I check Task Manager and they are there. I have downloaded the new Liveware 3 for Win2k but when I double click to run SETUP...it shows the usual InstallShield and then nothing. I look in Task Manager and its there sitting in the background doing nothing. Problem 3 --------- I run Outlook Express (I'm using IE 5.5), and it takes 5 minutes to show up on the screen everytime. These problems are fustrating, and I require assistance to fix them. My system config is... Pentium III 1000Mhz ( 100Mhz FSB, SECC2 form ) ABIT BF6 motherboard 384 MB KingMax PC 133 SDRAM SB LIVE! PLAYER (The Asia/Pacific version of the same SB LIVE! MP3+) TNT2 PRO video card (32MB) Sigma Designs Hollywood Plus DVD Decoder SMC 10/100Mbit network card Tekram 390U3W Ultra160 SCSI card Plextor 40tsi (SCSI 40x CD-ROM) Plextor 12/10/32S (SCSI CD-RW) Pioneer 303R (SCSI 6x DVD-ROM) 1x IBM 34GXP DESKSTAR 13.6GB HDD 2x IBM 75GXP DESKSTAR 30.0GB HDD I'm not quite sure what the problem is...I think the SB LIVE drivers causing the problem...What do you think??? Brian Frank 0 Posted March 5, 2001 First off, ditch MP7 as its had problems under win2k. Also, if you dont have a 300 watt power supply, that could be causing some problems, you have a lot of components including scsi so having enough juice could be part of your problem. SB Live cards have problems under Win2k. Use the default drivers and see if you still have the same problems. That blue screen you got is due either to hardware incompatability with your SB Live or the device drivers for the SB are a problem. Check Creative's website to look for drivers specifically for Win2k. Lots of people with SB cards have problems under win2k, especially SB Live. Look around on this forum, cause I swear Ive seen stuff about SB Live problems. Im betting that your problems stem from the SB Live. Ive heard of the SB's causing slowdowns. As for the hard drives, check to make sure the ide/scsi cables are fully plugged in at both ends. You dont have any idea how much that can screw up your system. Id also look into getting my hard drives checked out or just the suspect one(s). Good luck. Share this post Link to post

stmok 0 Posted March 6, 2001 I have just formated and started again. The only problem now is "PROBLEM 1" Straight after installing Win2k, I did the following... I installed the SB LIVE drivers for Win2k which I downloaded directly from www.soundblaster.com I then installed Nvidia drivers ver 6.50 for Win2k from www.nvidia.com Now, I run only WMP 6.4 and load a video clip, OK that's fine. Plays whole clip without a hitch. BUT When I double click a video file, WMP 6.4 plays that file for about 3 seconds, then gives me the blue screen with the same error message as shown on Problem 1 of my first post. I restart again and double click the same mpeg file again, but this time it plays perfectly without a hitch...What's going on? Is the SB LIVE drivers still causing the problems despite being the latest version for this operating system. Could it be the SB LIVE is in a particular PCI slot that Win2k does not like? cuke 0 Posted March 6, 2001 Hi, I have exactly the same problem but with playing certain games, ie MSFS200, I found that it was the nvidia's own 6.50 drivers. so I went back to the 6.49's and everything was ok. Also tried the 6.72 but that would come out of hibernate correctly. I would be interested to see what happened to your system BEFORE you put the nvidia's own drivers in there. I have tried with both the CT's liveware3 and their basic drivers and that didn't change anything, I stuck with the basic drivers in the end as I don't need liveware3 and it speeds up my bootup time considerably My own opinion is that it isn't anything to do with your sound card as there is nothing in the stop code that points to a driver.... stmok 0 Posted March 6, 2001 I found the solutions to my problems... To solve the 2nd one Clean install Win2k and install the latest drivers for SB LIVE (for Win2000) straight after Win2k installation. Do not install the Creative Launcher. To solve the 3rd one Format and Clean install Win2k. A file was corrupted. What was going on with Problem 1??? It appears that it is Nvidia's Detonator 3 drivers (VERSION 6.50) that is causing the problem. This particular version's file called nv4_disp.dll causes the problem under both WMP 6.4 and 7. The solution here is to install version 6.31 This problem only occurs with TNT2 cards and version 6.50 of the drivers. Share this post Link to post
