CrazyKillerMan 0 Posted March 6, 2001 OK...i got me a dual boot. Win2k for almost everything and 98 for some programs i need for school (Circuitmaker 2000 doesnt print very well in 2k, winspool errors) anyways, I have norton utils 2000 and i was jsut about to use speed disk, but then i got to thinking. I have both Os's on one 10 gig hd, with 20 other gigs dedicated to whatever. If i use speed disk in win2k, will that not screw everything up in win98?? ie: Windows 98 file structures for the os itself. thnx Share this post Link to post
Wolf87 0 Posted March 6, 2001 Good thinking done at the right time. Using O & O Defrag I once lost contents of a Windows 98 SE Fat-32 partition defragged right after Windows 2000 on NTFS partition. Get Diskeeper 6: one month free trialware. Share this post Link to post
Bursar 0 Posted March 6, 2001 You should have stuff installed onto seperate partitions, so you can defrag the partitions as you see fit. This shouldn't cause any problems between OSs. If you have both OSs on one partitiion, then you could run into the problems mentioned by Wolf. The other main problem is that each OS will keep a track of which application is used most, so each will require a different file layout for optimal performance. This will cause each OS to keep thinking that it needs defragging. Share this post Link to post
CrazyKillerMan 0 Posted March 6, 2001 ok.....here another problem i may have run into. When installing most of my programs, instead of installing them to the program files dir, i install onto my 20 gig hd. I can see this being a problem as u stated Bursar, b/c of the OS's keeping track of most used appz. Maybe the 20 gig would be best as a system drive...hmmm. Thanx alot guys!
