pr-man 1 Posted April 9, 2001 I have a copy of Beta 3 which everyone tells me is the exact same thing as the store bought. is that correct? I know mine does not expire after 120 days and it is not timed. Are there any differences between what i have and the off the shelf win2k pro final? ------------------ Celeron II 566@952 on a Abit BE6 Rev 1.01, 192 Pc100, Matrox G450 32 DH, SBlive Value, Supra Express 56i ISA, Win2k PRO Share this post Link to post
Cardinal 0 Posted April 9, 2001 Pr-man. Sorry I can't answer your question about beta-3 of w2k but I am interested in how the heck you have your 566 celery running at 952! Mine is only stable at 850mhz running at 1.7volts. What have you done to get stability at that speed? CUViper 0 Posted April 9, 2001 the build number of the final release is 2195 - you can check your build in system properties. If you have beta 3, then it's not the final, but if it's RC3 it might be, I can't remember.... Share this post Link to post
pr-man 1 Posted April 9, 2001 well mine is 2195 but when i run the wininfo program it tells me that the expiration date is Not Applicable ------------------ Celeron II 566@952 on a Abit BE6 Rev 1.01, 192 Pc100, Matrox G450 32 DH, SBlive Value, Supra Express 56i ISA, Win2k PRO Share this post Link to post
SnapperOne 0 Posted April 9, 2001 Pr-Man mentions that, "mine.....does not expire at 120 days and it is not timed". Since I'm very close to installing Win2KPro on two PCs as a Dual Boot, what's with "expire" and "timed". "Expired", "Times".....are we talking about buying a retail version (not a download), then being required to register w/ Microsoft (by providing them w/information about my system, number of children, medical history, etc).......or my legally purchased software goes POOF? Is this Microsoft at its' best again? Share this post Link to post
clutch 1 Posted April 9, 2001 Nope. The betas had expiration timeframes (like 120 days) before the OS would "run out" and not boot any longer. That is why he mentions he has no timeout on his. The retail/RTM versions are like any of the other released OSs from MS, and only need a key to activate it. ------------------ Regards, clutch Share this post Link to post
Cynan 0 Posted April 9, 2001 If it is a beta, or an evaluation copy, then it will say on the CD. These both have the timebomb built-in. The evaluation version is of build 2195 just like the RTM one, however, there ARE files that are different, despite it carrying the same build #. --Cynan. Share this post Link to post
